Colin Moulding of XTC

With all the talk around Andy's Fuzzy Warbles releases (deservedly so I may add) the last few years, I figured it was about time XTC's bassist and secondary singer/songwriter Colin Moulding received some props. His bass playing, a cross between Paul McCartney and James Jamerson and his way of turning a vocal melody were key components in the evolution of the band over the course of 25+ years. XTC, a band known for their long-standing critical success may be no more as in November 2006, Partridge told the press that Moulding no longer had any interest in writing, performing or even listening to music. Partridge said he would not continue XTC without Moulding, and therefore has been forced to regard XTC "in the past tense."

Hearing the news that Colin no longer has any interest in music just makes me sad. What a terrible loss to everyone.

Same here, though i'm eternally optimistic after hearing Col's "radio Rundgren" interview.

He's a criminally overlooked songwriter at this point in time. For me, his unique musical and lyrical "take" on things is up there with Dave Davis, Lennon,Macca,Bacherach,Wilson, Vaughn Williams.

Whether it's more xtc or the odd low key "solo" release from Colin (on his own or with other musicians, in his own good time), it'd certainly make my days more enjoyable!
Unashamed Fan post...but heartfelt!

Although Colin wrote Vanishing Girl, it was actually Andy Partridge that played the bass part on the Psonic Psunspot track!
Another XTC bass line much praised is that of the Mayor of Simpleton. Colin played this bass part on the record, but it was actually worked out and composed note for note by Andy.

...right, right, right, but if you listen closely to the radio interview he hints that the fall out with Partridge was over financial, not artistic matters. The interviewer declines to follow up on this....

Nice compilation. Moulding wrote some of my favorite XTC songs. Too bad you didn't include anything from Oranges & Lemons.

My uncle did the same thing with Beatles songs written by George Harrison.

Thanks!
